8月16日の礼拝の後で「日曜学校夏のつどい」を行いました。「主の祈り」の中の、日ごとの糧を神さまに願う祈りについての話を聞き、手作りのカレーを食べた後、いろいろなフルーツやクリームを盛り付けて、フルーツパフェを作りました。

おいしい食べ物と楽しい時間を与えられたことを感謝いたします。ご参加くださった方々、ありがとうございました。

「日曜学校夏のつどい」のお話

マタイによる福音書6章9節〜13節
だから、こう祈りなさい。「天におられるわたしたちの父よ、御名が崇められますように。御国が来ますように。御心が行われますように、天におけるように地の上にも。わたしたちに必要な糧を今日与えてください。わたしたちの負い目を赦してください、わたしたちも自分に負い目のある人を赦しましたように。わたしたちを誘惑に遭わせず、悪い者から救ってください。」

これは、聖書の中のイエスさまが弟子たちにどのようなお祈りをすればよいか教えてくださったところです。今日はその中の「わたしたちに必要な糧（かて）を今日与えてください」というお祈りについてお話します。「糧」というのは食べ物のことです。私たち人間が生きるためには食べ物が必要ですね。もちろん、食べ物だけではなくて飲み物も必要です。それだけでしょうか？裸では生きていけませんから、着る物が必要です。雨や風をしのいで安心して生きていくためには、住む所も必要です。そして、食べ物も飲み物も着る物も住む所も、みんな神様が与えてくださるものなのです。

「神様が与えてくださるもの」と言うと、自分でお金をかせいで手に入れるものじゃないか、と思う人がいるかもしれません。でも、よく考えてみてください。働くための健康や力は神様からいただくものです。それだけではありません。健康や力があっても、仕事がなければお金をかせぐことはできません。そして、たとえお金があっても、社会に正しい秩序がなければ、お金で物を買うことはできません。さらに、社会の秩序が保たれていても、自然の環境が破壊されて植物や動物が育たなければ、人間の食べ物はなくなってしまいます。人に仕事を与え、社会の秩序と自然の環境を守ってくださるのは神様です。人間が生きるために必要な物を自分で働いて手に入れたと思っていても、実はすべて神様が与えてくださっているのです。 日本の教会の礼拝ではこのお祈りを「われらの日用の糧を今日も与えたまえ」という昔から使っている古い言葉で祈っています。「日用の」というのは、日ごとに必要なということです。毎日お食事をいただくときに、神様に感謝していただきましょう。

Matthew 6:9-13
Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.”

This is the passage in the Bible where Jesus taught his disciples how to pray. Today, I would like to talk about the part of that prayer that says, “Give us this day our daily bread.” The word “daily” means that we need it every day. And “bread” means food. We humans need food to live, don’t we? Of course, we need not only food but also drink. Is that all? We cannot live naked, so we need something to wear. We need shelter from the rain and wind, so we need a house to live. Food, drink, clothes and house are all given by God.
Some people may think that food, drink, clothes and house are not “given by God” but something we get by earning our own money. But think about it. Health and strength to work come from God. Even if you have health and strength, you cannot earn money without work. And even if you have money, you cannot buy things with money if there is no proper order in society. Furthermore, even if social order is maintained, if the natural environment is destroyed and plants and animals do not grow, there will be no food for people. It is God who gives people work and protects the social order and the natural environment. Even though people think they have worked and gotten the things they need to live, in fact, God has given them everything.
In Japanese church services, we pray this prayer using the traditional wording: “Warera no nichiyō no kate o kyō mo atae tamae.” The phrase “nichiyō no” (daily) means that it is what we need each day. Let us give thanks to God every time we sit down to eat a meal.
